Pakistan's improved security situation leads to revision in UK travel advisory ::: Pakistan welcomes positive change in UK travel advisory ::: Pakistan is safe to travel due to improved security, UK HC tells nationals

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The United Kingdom (UK) on Friday has changed its travel advice for Pakistan to show the improved security situation in the country after wide-range of assessment.

According to British government, today’s announcement is the result of a comprehensive review of UK travel advice for Pakistan, based on a wide-ranging assessment of the country’s security situation. This is the first major update in the travel advice since 2015.

The improved security situation allowed for the return of British Airways to Pakistan in June 2019 and the visit by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in October 2019. Among other changes, the advice now allows for travel by road to the North of Pakistan as well as the Kalesh and Bamboret Valleys.

Dr Christian Turner, British High Commissioner to Pakistan, said: “Following my arrival in December 2019, I made this review of the travel advice a priority. It is great credit to the hard work of the Government of Pakistan in delivering improved security over the past five years.

"I am delighted that British nationals will be able to see more of what Pakistan has to offer.”

In recent years, the security situation in Pakistan has improved considerably following action by the Pakistan government and security forces. In 2018, there were an estimated 484,000 visits by British nationals to Pakistan. There are 22 weekly direct flights to the UK.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that this is great news as it will address two most important econ issues facing Pakistan today – employment and our current account deficit – by bringing in tourism and investment which in turn will provide employment opportunities especially for the youth.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi tweeted: “Pakistan – Land of peace and progress with incredible natural beauty, warmth and hospitality. This change in travel advice is encouraging, the first major update to the UK’s travel advisory to Pakistan since 2015. This will further strengthen Pak-UK relations. Welcome to Pakistan.”

In a statement, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the credit of a change in the UK travel advisory goes to the armed forces and the nation. “It is a big development. I am pleased to know about it. I also talked to the UK Secretary of State in this regard. We are discussing tourism with Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Malaysia,” he said.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the prime minister had requested Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman to help and invest in Pakistan in the promotion of tourism.

He expressed the hope that Pakistan will be removed from the grey list.
