DAVOS (92 News) – US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump met with Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2020 summit at Davos.

It is pertinent to mention here that first time Pakistani prime minister met with Trump’s daughter.

In an informal meeting, both the leaders discussed education and training programmes to empower Pakistani women. Adviser to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfi Bokhari was also present in the meeting.

Imran Khan has asked World Economic Forum (WEF) to support on important social welfare initiatives for poverty alleviation and education.

The prime minister expressed this desire during a meeting with WEF executive chairman Dr Klaus Schwab on the sidelines of WEF Annual Meeting 2020 at Davos.

PM Khan emphasized that the issues being highlighted by WEF this year are also relevant to Pakistan. “Pakistan is focusing on skills’ enhancement for youth as it considers its significant youth population as driver of economic growth,” he added.

Imran Khan said government of Pakistan is addressing the impacts of climate change through implementation of “Clean Green Pakistan Program” including plantation of 10 billion trees. He expressed the desire that WEF can partner with Pakistan on important social welfare initiatives for poverty alleviation and education.

Chairperson Telenor Ms Gunn Waersted and CEO Telenor Mr Sigve Brekke called on PM Imran Khan on the sidelines of WEF Annual Meeting 2020 at Davos.

The premier hailed Telenor’s confidence in Pakistan due to its presence in the country since 2005 with an investment of around 3.5 billion US dollars.

He also emphasized the government’s focus on investment in the training and development of youth for skills enhancement.

Discussions were held on enhancing application of digital solutions for good governance, poverty alleviation through use of connectivity and increased economic transactions through mobile.

Telenor reiterated its strong commitment to Pakistan technology sector and shared their ideas on developing the sector in Pakistan.

PM invited to visit FB headquarters

Facebook Chief Operating Officer Ms Sheryl Sandberg also called on Prime Minister Imran Khan at Davos on the sidelines of WEF Annual Meeting 2020.

The prime minister invited Facebook to consider investments to support Pakistani incubators and to help with digital literacy initiatives. He stated that Social Media platforms should establish third party fact checking services for more responsible digital journalism.

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that a human tragedy has emerged in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, he said that they were only pointing out ground realities. “The issue is not restricted to the governments. It has gone to public representatives,” he said.

Qureshi said that India’s August 5 step had been rejected by all forces in Kashmir. “Expectations of the people in Occupied Kashmir are still linked with Pakistan. They are not disappointed with Pakistan. Today Pakistan is with the Occupied Kashmir,” he said.

He said that Kashmiris are a sensible nation and understand the fact with which leader they are dealing. “We raised the issue of the IOJ&K with the Saudi foreign minister. The US president has expressed its concern over the Kashmir issue, India is not cooperating with anyone and telling a lie with the world. The Kashmiris are looking towards Pakistan,” he said.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that 11 states are strongly protesting against the controversial citizenship law. “Modi has defaced the secular image of India,” he said.

He announced to launch a vigorous campaign to highlight the Kashmir issue. “A cultural show will be held on January 27.

“Picture exhibitions will be held across country on January 28. A seminar will be held in Islamabad on January 30. Kashmir Committee Chairman Fakhar Imam will hold a press conference on January 31. Ceremonies will be held at Convention Centre on February 3 and Aiwan-e-Sadr on February 4. Rallies will be taken out on February 5. In addition, Prime Minister Imran Khan will address the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and a human chain will be formed the same day,” he said.

DAVOS (92 News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has once again called upon US President Donald Trump and the United Nations to play role as mediator in the outstanding Kashmir issue.

In an interview with American TV channel ‘CNBC’, the prime minister said said Kashmir is a far more serious problem than the people and the world realizes. He also once again urged the US president and UN to play as role of mediator in the lingering Kashmir issue.
India taken over by extremist ideology

PM Imran Khan mentioned that India has been taken over by an extremist ideology which is called Hindutva or the RSS. He said Modi is a life member of this extremist outfit.
Eight million people put under siege

Referring to the situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK), the premier said eight million people have been put under siege there since 5th August last year. “The Indian forces have picked up thousands of Kashmiri teenagers and arrested all their political leaders,” he added.
Kashmir issue can become conflict b/w two nuclear armed countries

Imran Khan warned that it is a serious situation and this could potentially spill over in to a conflict between the two nuclear armed countries.
US-Iran conflict to be disastrous for developing countries

To a question on current situation about US-Iran tension, Pm Khan said war is not a solution to any problem. He warned that a conflict with Iran will be disastrous for the developing countries as it will shoot up the oil prices. He said the sensible way forward is dialogue.
Pakistan will only be partner in peace

Imran Khan clarified that Pakistan will only be partner in peace, ready to become mediator in the issue. He reminded that Pakistan suffered heavily both in terms of human and material losses in the war on terrorism.
Pakistan now safe country, ready for business

The prime minister said Pakistan is now a safe country and ready for business. Hailing the sacrifices rendered by security forces in the war on terrorism, he said Pakistan has disarmed the militias and rehabilitated them.
PM rejects statement about CPEC made Pakistan indebted to China

To another question, Imran Khan rejected the impression that the CPEC has made Pakistan indebted to China. He pointed out that the Chinese loans only account for five or six per cent of Pakistan’s total loan portfolio.

He said China helped Pakistan in the most difficult times by making investments and we are grateful to them.

He said the CPEC also envisages cooperation in different sectors including technology transfer in the agriculture sector.
Country is now on right track

About Pakistan’s economy, PM Khan said the country is now on the right track and our focus is on export led growth by promoting industrialization.

ISLAMABAD: Mushaal Mullick, the wife of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik, has urged the United States (US) to play its role for ending curfew in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK) which continues for more than five months, ARY News reported on Thursday.

Mushaal Mullick welcomed the statement of US President Donald Trump regarding the Kashmir dispute.

She said the longstanding dispute must be resolved in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiris. She criticised that thousands of Kashmiri youth and Hurriyet leaders were detained by Indian troops and the international community will have to play its role to their release.

Earlier on January 21, Prime Minister Imran Khan met with the President of United States Donald Trump at the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Tuesday.

Expressing pleasure upon meeting the Prime Minister of Pakistan, US President Donald Trump says that he considered him to be a friend, to which Imran Khan replied in kind stating that he was happy to meet the dignitary again.

PM Imran Khan while addressing the United States President raised the issue of the situation unfolding in Indian Occupied Kashmir and the atrocities the people were being subjected to in the region.

The Pakistani premier also talked about Pakistan’s overtures in the Afghan Peace Process and said that he looked forward to discussing the important matter with the US president.

Donald Trump on the occasion said that he will discuss Kashmir and the other underlying issues between India and Pakistan with PM Imran Khan and will ponder over how the United States can resolve them amicably.

The US President said that he was watching the situation in Kashmir “closely” and “certainly will be helping.”

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Thursday announced that Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to start the countrywide campaign on Kashmir issue from January 25, ARY News reported.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad along with Special Assistant to PM on Information, Firdous Ashiq Awan and Communication Minister Murad Saeed, the foreign minister said on directives of the prime minister the campaign would be launched across the country to show solidarity with Kashmir people who were put under siege by BJP government since August 5, 2019.

FM Qureshi said regional peace and security is under threat due to India’s step of revoking the special status of Occupied Kashmir, adding that Kashmiris are under military lockdown by BJP government from past 172 days.

Responding to a question, he said entire India stands against the citizenship amendment act that exposed the reality of so-called secular and democratic India before the world community. FM Qureshi said the whole nation is united to raise the case of innocent Kashmiris on every international forum.

Briefing media about the schedule of the campaign, FM Qureshi said that culture show would be held on January 27 in which Kashmir cause will be focused. Similarly, on January 28 an image exhibition would be arranged across the country in which stories of Kashmiri people will be shown.

He further said that a seminar on Kashmir issue would be held in Islamabad on January 30, while Kashmir Committee Chairman Syed Fakhar Imam will hold a press conference on January 31.

“A ceremony will be held in Convention Centre Islamabad on February 3 for youth in which ground realities and Kashmir issue will be raised effectively. Ration would be distributed at Azad Jammu and Kashmir refugee camps on the same day,” added FM Qureshi.

DAVOS: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of immediate war between Pakistan and India following the prevailing grave situation in occupied Kashmir which was put under military siege and lockdown by Narendra Modi-led government in New Delhi when it revoked the special status of the territory in August, last year.

Speaking to International Media Council in Davos, the prime minister said that when he became PM, he reached out to Narendra Modi to settle disputes, but the response from Modi was “really strange”. He said that Pakistan wants a peaceful resolution of all disputes with India.

“When I became PM, I telephoned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked him to let both countries invest the money on eliminating poverty instead of investing on enmity,” he added.

PM Imran said that India is moving towards extremism due to the flawless policies of Modi led BJP government. He said that tensions between the two countries risen after the Pulwama incident.

Commenting over Kashmir issue, the PM Khan said that India has put eight million people of Occupied Kashmir under lockdown and they are forced to live prisoners life.

Prime Minister Khan said the Kashmir dispute must be resolved in accordance with relevant UNSC resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people, adding that Pakistan will continue moral support to Kashmiris.

“We will continue to provide moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people until they secure their inalienable right to self-determination,” he reiterated.
‘Pakistan won’t become part of any conflict’

Imran Khan said the war on terror left 70,000 people dead as Pakistan was considered one of the most dangerous places in the world.

“Therefore, when my government came into power we made a decision to only partner with people in peace. We decided not to become part of any conflict,” the premier unequivocally stated.

The premier said Pakistan has played its part in trying to avert the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran. “We are also actively participating to facilitate the Afghan peace process,” he said.

“There is a chance of ceasefire in Afghanistan which will help us reach the Central Asian countries through the economic corridor,” he concluded.
